timeline

2 weeks

iterate, iterate, iterate!

the team worked on several lo-fi prototypes to decide on the form factor and the primary interactions for the device using a bunch of readily available materials like foam, cups, cardboard, and paper. once we bodystormed and took feedback from mentors and peers, we began working on the technical stuff.

Lumonote initial prototypes

fixing errors at source

the module we were using to record and playback audio was not fully compatible with the arduino mkr1010 wifi board we were using. hence, we rewrote the module's entire library!

Barebone circuit

put it in the box!

the team quickly designed the outer case and knob for the device. with zero to no experience in fusion 360 and 3d printing, we enjoyed the challenge and completed the first version in just 2 days!

keep it simple, stupid!

this device does one thing and does it right. recording a note and setting priority are handled by the knob while the different states of the led light communicates the system status.

person using lumonote

love death + robots

we used the following components:
arduino mkr1010 wifi, dfrobot dfr0745 recorder module, 8w speaker, led neopixel 12 bit, and a rotary encoder.

feedback from some visitors

sr. ixd at siemens healthcare

i can see myself using this at work! perfect to let people know when equipment room access is restricted.

a visitor

i could use this to remind myself of important things. the digital reminders don't feel the same.

a student

this would definitely make living with roommates easier.

don norman

good job on the interactions. they convey what's needed.
